I am using Norton’s Internet security 2010 and think it is really good. It even has a network security map that shows you who is in your network. If any unauthorized user is connecting to your internet, it shows that up as well. if it shows up that some one is using your network when their not in your network, you can disconnect them from using it by deleting them.

I have used McAfee for about 5 years with no regrets. It is good about stopping malicious downloads. You probably have seen stated that McAfee will hog up system resources and slow your system down. This is true if you install all the options on the disc. Only install the Anti-Virus and Firewall, these 2 are all you need.
Something else you should invest in also is a good router, even if you only have one computer in your house it gives you that extra amount of security. I recommend the NetGear ProSafe VPN Firewall FVS318. I use this is and have no complaints(except from my internet provider). One real good upside on this particular router is that it has a lifetime warranty. You can pick one up from staples for around $100. Try shopping around you might find a better deal.
There really is no 1 best Anti_Virus software as some contend. However I would highly recommend to you to stay away from any free Anti-Virus software. Been there, done that, and would not go there again.
As far as Spy Sweepers, Web Root Spy Sweeper is pretty good. Also get SureClean Professional. You can select what folders to clean and with one click it will sweep through all those folders. You can use the standard one pass, or you can select 7 passes when cleaning.
