Looking for something free and downloadable that’s a good protecter for my computer. Looking to download Limewire and I don’t want any spyware downloading on my computer.
You can use SpywareNoMore.
As we all know Computer hackers seeking financial gain rather than thrills or notoriety are increasingly flooding the Internet with malicious software code (spyware, adware, key loggers, trojans). They are infecting computers with highly sophisticated programs that record surfing habits, bank passwords and other key financial data and send them to crooks over the Internet. These programs can be hard to spot, disguised in downloads such as toolbars, search engines, browser accessories, screen savers and other seemingly helpful utilities.
SpyNoMore anti-spyware safeguards your identity and restores system performance through fast, smart and powerful spyware protection.

Adaware works well, but if you are planning on using Limewire… you are planning on getting a virus

Nothing will provide you 100% protection against malwares.
That being said, however, these are some good free antivirus and antispware programs:
Avast: http://www.avast.com/
My personal favorite. Absolutely free, no advertisement or pop up whatsoever.
Avira: http://www.free-av.com/
High detection rate–and also high false-detection rate. It pops up an ad whenever it updates its database definition.
AVG: http://free.avg.com/
With detection rate less than both Avast and Avira, big in size and use more computer resources than the othe, has very slow scan speeds and also advertisements, I don’t know why it is so popular.

In my opinion it is the Spybot - Search & Destroy.

Easy to use and will clean your PC well

I like Malwarebytes….it worked at detecting lots of infections on my computer, and was much faster than the other programs I’ve used too.

Microsoft Security Essentials is a great program, however P2P programs are very risky when it comes to viruses- http://www.microsoft.com/Security_Essentials/default.aspx?mkt=en-ca

In response to the emergence of spyware, a small industry has sprung up dealing in anti-spyware software. Running anti-spyware software has become a widely recognized element of computer security practices for computers, especially those running Microsoft Windows. A number of jurisdictions have passed anti-spyware laws, which usually target any software that is surreptitiously installed to control a user’s computer. The US Federal Trade Commission has placed on the Internet a page of advice to consumers about how to lower the risk of spyware infection,
including a list of "do’s" and "don’ts."
